Mohawk Valley communities host ceremonies, parades on Memorial Day

Communities throughout the Mohawk Valley will gather this Memorial Day Weekend to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. 

From parades to wreath laying to prayer services to receptions and open houses, folks need not go far to find a place and a special way to remember our fallen soldiers.

Mohawk Valley Memorial Day events

All events are scheduled for Monday, May 25, unless otherwise noted.

BROOKFIELD – 8 a.m. Leonardville Town Cemetery Ceremony / 9:30 a.m. Memorial Day Parade 

CLARK MILLS – Sun. May 24, 5 p.m. Memorial Day Ceremony – Westmoreland and Clark Mills Cemetery / Mon. May 25, 11 a.m. Memorial Day Parade followed by Open House at Clark Mills American Legion Post #26. 

Ceremony features prayer service, wreath-laying, a rifle salute, and playing of Taps. Mon. Parade begins from Kirkland Cemetery. 

CLINTON – 9 a.m. Memorial Day Parade – from Oriskany Creek Bridge to Clinton Village Green 

DEANSBORO – 10:30 a.m. Memorial Day Parade followed by Ceremony at Deansboro Cemetery 

FORESTPORT – 9 a.m. Memorial Day Service – Memorial Park (Woodhull Road). 

HERKIMER (Village) – Memorial Day Parade followed by Ceremony at Myers Park 

The Village of Herkimer Memorial Day Parade, sponsored by the Herkimer Veterans Council, begins on North Washington Street and concludes at Myers Park, 5-99 N. Park Place, Herkimer – where a Memorial ceremony is then held. Please contact the Town of Herkimer to confirm times.

HOLLAND PATENT – 10:30 a.m. Memorial Day Parade followed by Ceremony at American Legion Post 161 

Parade is hosted by Leon R. Roberts American Legion Post 161. It proceeds down Main Street, concluding at Post 161, 9550 Depot St. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony. In case of rain, the parade will be canceled and the Ceremony at Post 161 will begin at 11 a.m. 

ILION – Memorial Day Remembrance – Ilion Elks Lodge #1444 – 8 West St. @ W. Main St. 

The Elks Lodge typically hosts a Memorial Day ceremony. There was no response to a query regarding details before we went to press. Please reach out to the Elks at (315) 894-1444 for information. 

LEONARDSVILLE – 11 a.m. Memorial Day Parade 

The parade begins at Unadilla Forks Baptist Church (UFBC) (former Leonardsville School), 2068 NY Rte. 8 

MOHAWK – 9 a.m. Memorial Day Parade / 1 p.m. Memorial Ceremony – Myers Park 

Myers Park, 5-99 N. Park Place 

NEW HARTFORD – 11 a.m. American Legion Ceremony / 3 p.m. Veterans Memorial Park Ceremony / 7 p.m. Memorial Day Parade 

New Hartford American Legion Post #1376, 8616 Clinton Street / Veterans Memorial Park, 11 Evalon Road / Memorial Day Parade starts from New Hartford Shopping Center, heads down Genesee through the Village, turns left onto Oxford Road, then ends at New Hartford Recreation Center. 

NEW YORK MILLS – 11 a.m. Memorial Day Parade followed by Memorial Ceremony at Pulaski Park 

Memorial Day Parade begins from Elm Street. Pulaski Park, 8 White Street  

NORTH BROOKFIELD – 9 a.m. Memorial Day Ceremony – N. Brookfield Cemetery off Rte. 12 

OHIO – 10:30 a.m. – Wreath-Laying Ceremony – Veterans Monument, Nellis Road @ Rte. 8.  

In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Recreation Hall (Rec Hall), 140 Nellis Road. Coffee and donuts will be served at the Rec Hall following the ceremony. 

OLD FORGE – 10 a.m. Memorial Day Parade followed by Wreath-Laying Ceremony 

The Memorial Day Parade marches down State Route 28, ending at Riverview Cemetery, William Street. 

ONEIDA – Fri., May 22, 6:30 p.m. Memorial Day Ceremony, Triangle Park / 7 p.m. Memorial Day Parade followed by Open House gathering at Oneida American Legion Hall 

Parade starts from St. Patrick’s School, 354 Elizabeth St. Oneida American Legion Hall, 398 N. Main Street. 

ORISKANY FALLS – 12 noon Memorial Day Parade followed by Ceremony at Douglas Park 

The Memorial Day Parade, hosted by Oriskany Falls American Legion Post #569, begins at Nassimo’s Cooperative Gas Station, 141 N. Main Street, ending at Douglas Park on Main Street, where a Memorial Day Ceremony will follow. 

REMSEN – 11 a.m. Memorial Day Ceremony Town of Remsen Veterans Memorial followed by a Community Open House, VFW Post 982 

Town of Remsen Veterans Memorial Park off Steuben St., behind Remsen Post Office, 10526 Steuben Street. Remsen VFW Post 892,10526 Steuben Street 

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – 10:30 a.m. Memorial Day Parade followed by Memorial Service, Memorial Park / 11 a.m. Memorial Day Chicken BBQ till sold out / 1 p.m. Live Music by Dead and Coe. 

Memorial Park, Federal Highway 20. Richfield Springs American Legion and Auxilary Post #616 “Vets Club,” 13 Lake Street. 

ROME – 10:15 a.m. Annual Memorial Day Ceremony, Veterans Memorial Park / 2 p.m. New York State Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony, Griffiss Park 

Veterans Memorial Park, 200 N. James Steet / Griffiss Park, 825 Ellsworth Road. 

SCHUYLER LAKE – 9 a.m. Memorial Day Parade 

Parade begins at Town Barns on State Rte. 28, stops at corner of State Rte. 28 near the Post Office for a Memorial Service, then ends at the Schuyler Lake Firehouse, 1490 County Highway 22. 

SHERRILL – 8:45 a.m. Memorial Day Parade followed by Memorial Ceremony, Memorial Park, concluding with Community Open House at Sherrill American Legion Post #230 

Sherrill Memorial Day Parade begins from Sherrill Road and East Hamilton Avenue, ending at Memorial Park, Sherrill Road (across from City Hall). Sherrill American Legion Post #230, 168 East Seneca Street. 

SOUTH BROOKFIELD – 8:30 am Memorial Day Ceremony – South Brookfield Cemetery 

UNADILLA / UNADILLA FORKS – 8 a.m. Memorial Service, Unadilla Forks /10:30 a.m. Annual Memorial Day Parade, Unadilla 

Memorial Service hosted by Johnson-Rogers American Legion, Brookfield 

UTICA – May, 22, 12 noon Utica Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony, 54 Mohawk Valley Parkway Center / Mon., May 25,10 a.m. Memorial Day Parade  

Utica Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony is hosted by Utica Fire Department, Utica Police Department, Utica Fire Department Historical Society. Utica Memorial Day Parade is hosted by Utica Center for Development. It starts near St. Elizabeth’s College of Nursing, 2209 Genesee Street, turns right onto Memorial Parkway, and ends at the Utica Recreation Center on the Roscoe Conkling Park campus. 

VERNON – 11 a.m. Memorial Day Parade followed by Memorial Ceremony at Vernon Village Cemetery, Cooper Street 

Vernon Memorial Day parade starts in front of Vernon American Legion Post #404, 5092 W. Seneca St. (Rte. 5) and ends at Vernon Village Cemetery. 

VERNON CENTER – 9 a.m. Memorial Day Parade  

Vernon Center Memorial Day Parade begins at Vernon Center Volunteer Fire Department, 5786 Youngs Road. Poppies will be passed out at the parade by American Legion Auxiliary of William Russell Post #404. 

WATERVILLE – 9 a.m. Memorial Day Parade followed by a Memorial Ceremony 

Waterville Memorial Day Parade begins at Waterville Firehouse, continues down Main Street, and ends at Soldiers and Sailors Monument Park, with a community ceremony immediately following. 

WESTMORELAND – 9:30 a.m. Memorial Ceremony at the Town Green / 10 a.m. Memorial Day Parade to Westmoreland Cemetery 

WHITESTOWN – 9:30 a.m. Memorial Day Parade followed by a Memorial Ceremony at Village Park 

Whitestown Memorial Day Parade begins at the corner of Watkins and Main Streets and concludes at Village Park 

YORKVILLE – 1 – 2 p.m. Yorkville Memorial Day Service, Memorial Park, W. Whitesboro St.
