Milliman named to All-Greater Rochester Girls Indoor Track & Field Team

The All-Greater Rochester Girls Indoor Track and Field Team was selected by coaches with input from Democrat and Chronicle staff.

Alexis Gerig, Athlete of the Year

School: Hilton

Year: Senior

Parents: Erin and Reggie Gerig

Event: Pole vault

Why Gerig is the AGR Girls Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year: Gerig won the girls pole vault state championship after she jumped a personal-record height of 12 feet-3 inches. No other girl in Section V vaulted a height of 12 feet this season. Gerig cleared that height three times, including at states.

Future plans: I will attend Taylor University and will major in biology health sciences and will pole vault for the track team.

Graysen Milliman, Arkport

School: Arkport

Year: Senior

Parents: Shannon and Wendy Milliman

Events: Throws

Key accomplishments: A personal record weight throw of 48 feet-2.25 inches. In one year, I went from throwing 35-08 to 48-02.25, a gain of nearly 13 feet.

Future plans: I’m committed to Division 1 Long Island University.

Avery Brunner

School: Pittsford Mendon

Year: Junior

Key accomplishment: New York State weight throw champion.

Future plans: Study economics and politics.

Charlie Dickinson

Team: Harley-Allendale Columbia

Year: Senior

Key accomplishment: Placed sixth in the state 1,500-meter race walk race on Staten Island.

Future plans: Did not submit.

Rania Gallo

School: Pittsford Mendon

Year: Junior

Parents: Rachana and Patrick Gallo

Event: Pole vault

Key accomplishments: Jumped 11 feet-6 inches, a personal-record and fourth place at states.

Future plans: Attending medical school.

Carly Giebel

School: Brighton

Year: Senior

Parents: Bethany Donnelly and Eliot Giebel

Events: Throws

Key accomplishments: Throwing a new PR (personal record) of 38 feet-3.25 inches, to place third at the state championships.

Future plans: I plan to attend Bucknell University to study biochemistry and compete in track and field.

Emma Goodell

School: Victor

Year: Junior

Parents: Carrie and Robert Goodell

Events: Sprints, hurdles and jumps

Key accomplishment: Ran a 55-meter hurdles race in 8.56 seconds.

Future plans: I am currently in the process of searching for and communicating with colleges and intend to continue competing at the collegiate level.

Hannah Governor

School: Williamson

Year: Senior

Parents: Anne and Geoff Governor

Events: Distance races.

Key accomplishment: My team winning sectionals for the fifth straight winter season in a row.

Future plans: I am attending Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee where I am majoring in psychology as well as running Division I cross country and track.

Laurel Johnson

School: Victor

Year: Junior

Parents: Rachel Sluga and Robert Johnson

Events: Throws

Key accomplishment: 51 feet-0.75 inches in the weight throw.

Future plans: I hope to pursue track and field at the collegiate level.

Ka’mara Lane

School: Padilla at Franklin campus

Year: Sophomore

Parent: Chantecia Jackson

Events: 55-meter dash and long jump

Key accomplishments: 55-meter race in 7.03 seconds, Section V Class A1 55-meter champion and fourth place at states.

Future plans: Place at state championships for outdoor track and to be recruited by a Division I college for a potential scholarship.

Rachel Lynck

School: Mercy

Year: Junior

Parents: Mollene Benison and Daniel Lynck

Event: Triple jump

Key accomplishments: A jump of 38 feet-10 inches.

Future plans: Continue track in college, however, I’m still in the college search process.

Mallory Malsegna

School: Fairport

Year: Junior

Parent: Sarah Malsegna

Event: 1,500-meter race walk

Key accomplishment: 11th at a nation meet.

Future plans: I hope to compete in track in college hopefully, at a SUNY school, near my family.

Ellis McIlhenney

School: Victor

Year: Junior

Parents: Laurel Green and Patrick McIlhenney

Events: Sprints

Key accomplishments: 4×400 indoor state track meet split of 56.11 seconds.

Future plans: I want to study environmental science.

Kira Peacock

School: Gates Chili

Year: Senior

Parents: Did not submit

Event: High jump

Key accomplishments: A sixth place finish at the state championships. Finished the season No. 1 on the Section V indoor track and field season high jump leaderboard (5 feet-6 inches).

Future plans: Did not submit.

Modesty Penny

School: Gates Chili

Year: Senior

Event: Triple jump.

Key accomplishment: Finishing ninth in the state indoor triple jump.

Future plans: St. John’s University in Queens, New York.

Rebecca Schroeder

School: Webster Schroeder

Year: Junior

Parents: Carolyn and Mark Schroeder

Events: Middle distance races.

Key accomplishment: “Hitting” 1:34.60 in the 600-meter race at the state championships.

Future plans: Pursue a career in healthcare.

Lydia Sciallo

School: Penn Yan

Year: Junior

Parents: Lashana and Salvatore Sciallo

Events: Throws

Key accomplishment: 41-feet-7 3/4 inches in a shot put event.

Future plans: I plan to attend college after high school.

Arlie Sears

School: Hilton

Year: Junior

Parents: Emilie and Graham Sears

Event: High jump

Key accomplishment: A jump of 5 feet-6 inches.

Future plans: Undecided.

Jenna Swick

School: Webster Schroeder

Year: Freshman

Parents: Holly and Joe Swick

Events: Sprints, long jump and relays.

Key accomplishments: Jumping 19 feet in long jump and coming close to the state record. Placing fourth at states, and sixth at New Balance Nationals.

Future plans: Attend college for engineering and track.

Karizma Wescott

School: Batavia

Year: Junior

Parent: Julia B. Wescott

Events: Sprints

Key accomplishment: Race in 40.12 seconds in the 300-meter event.

Future plans: Undecided.

Coach of the Year

Jeremy Ohlson

School: Perry

Profession: Physical education/health teacher and indoor/outdoor track and field coach at Perry Central School.

Varsity coaching experience: 17 Years as an assistant varsity track and field coach. This is my sixth year as the Perry varsity girls track and field coach. Perry varsity boys and girls indoor track and field coach for four years, the first in the program’s history. Perry varsity football coach for seven years.

Family: Rebecca (wife), Caleb Carr, Briella Ohlson, Lakin Ohlson and Emmalyn Ohlson (children).
