The New York Giants are making significant coaching staff changes under new head coach John Harbaugh. Special teams coordinator Michael Ghobrial will not return next season, as Harbaugh begins reshaping the staff following his recent hiring.
Harbaugh met with several assistants on Wednesday, informing multiple coaches they would not be retained. The moves target most of the defensive staff assembled under former head coach Brian Daboll.
Among those departing are defensive line coach Andre Patterson, inside linebackers coach John Egorugwu, secondary coach/pass game coordinator Marquand Manuel, and cornerbacks coach Jeff Burris, reports the New York Post.
Patterson, a 24-year NFL assistant and member of Daboll’s original 2022 staff, played a key role in three-time Pro Bowler Dexter Lawrence’s development by shifting him to nose tackle. Egorugwu, also from the 2022 staff, previously worked under Harbaugh in Baltimore. Manuel and Burris joined last season.
These changes signal Harbaugh’s intent to overhaul the defense, with more decisions expected soon on remaining positions.
