A Wawayanda man was charged with reckless endangerment and attempted felony assault after he allegedly shot at a neighbor’s car over the weekend.
New York State Police said troopers from their Greenville barracks responded to what was originally reported as a harassment complaint on county Road 12 in the town of Wawayanda at approximately 12:20 p.m. Aug. 10.
State police said a preliminary investigation revealed the victim, a 60-year-old woman, was retrieving mail from her residence and then drove up the driveway to turn around at the top.
Police said that’s where she was confronted by two other residents, James Blake, 35, and a 32-year-old woman whom they did not identify.
During an altercation, police said Blake retrieved what appeared to be a shotgun and discharged a round in the direction of the victim’s vehicle, causing damage to it.
Blake was taken into custody without incident, arrested and charged with two counts each of first-degree reckless endangerment and attempted first-degree assault, both felonies; and one count each of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm, both felonies; and second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both misdemeanors.
Blake was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Part of Orange County Court and sent to the Orange County jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond or $250,000 partially secured bond, pending an appearance Aug. 14 in Town of Wawayanda Court.
The name of Blake’s attorney was not immediately available.
