A 28-year-old man has been accused of stabbing a man on his face and upper body last month in northwest Rochester.
The encounter occurred in Dewey Avenue, near Emerson Street, on Sunday, April 26, said Capt. Greg Bello of the Rochester Police Department.
Here’s more on the incident and arrest:
Man stabbed in face, upper body
On the evening of April 26, emergency responders were called to an urgent care center on Chili Avenue in Rochester, where a 19-year-old man had sought treatment after he suffered “significant, disfiguring” lacerations to his face and stab wounds to his upper body, Bello said.
He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated for serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Officers said that they determined that the stabbing occurred that same day during an altercation on Dewey Avenue near Emerson Street.
Man charged with assault
Hassan Ross, 28, was charged with first-degree assault, a felony, in connection with the incident, Bello said. He was apprehended on Fox Street in Rochester on Wednesday, May 6.
Ross is facing two other felony charges in unrelated, separate incidents, according to police. He is facing a felony criminal possession of a controlled substance charge following a March 2024 arrest and another first-degree assault and felony weapon possession charge in the October 2025 shooting of a man on Evergreen Street, Bello said. The man’s injuries were serious but he survived. According to court records, Ross pleaded guilty in March, but had not yet been sentenced.
What’s next?
Ross is being held in the Monroe County Jail ahead of an arraignment in City Court, which is set to take place in City Court Friday morning.
