The 1983 Westchester County Democratic Convention was held at the Westchester County Center in White Plains April 12. The convention was to decide if Greenburgh Supervisor Tony Veteran or former Westchester Congressman Ogden Reid would face Republican Andrew O’Rourke in the general election for Westchester County Executive. Veteran won the party’s nomination and eventually lost to O’Rourke in the general election.
O’Rourke would go on to run for governor against Mario Cuomo in 1986. He eventually was appointed to a judgeship in the New York Court of Claims. In his final role in public service, he was elected as a State Supreme Court Justice.
O’Rourke passed away on New Year’s eve, 2013.
Congressman Ogden Reid’s political career ended with his run for Westchester County executive. In addition to serving in congress, he was appointed ambassador to Israel.
Reid died on March 2, 2019.
