According to the Livonia Board of Education, the proposed school budget is $44,177,030 — which includes about $21.5 million in property taxes and $20.4 million in state aid.
The budget should help maintain small class sizes in grades K through 5, electives including art and music, sports athletics and extracurricular activities. The budget does not propose any layoffs, but pressures include rising health insurance, salaries and service costs.
The budget would include a proposed 2.94% tax levy increase. The projected tax rate would be $11.24 per $1,000 of assessed value and is a rate decrease from $14.27 per $1000 of assessed value.
The decrease reflects the reassessment changes rather than reduced tax collections.
The estimated annual school tax on a property worth $200,000 will be $2,248; however, actual bills vary based on reassessment changes and STAR exemptions.
For the vote, there is only one ballot proposition. Proposition 1 approves the $44.2 million school budget.
Voting will take place on Tuesday, May 19, at the Livonia Middle/High School Gym from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Location: 2 Bulldog Blvd., Livonia
