Josh Allen has a new baby daughter, but Buffalo’s favorite son hasn’t changed.
Allen brought the energy to KeyBank Center on Tuesday night, firing up the crowd before Game 2 of the Buffalo Sabres’ first-round playoff game against the Buffalo Bruins.
Wearing an Alex Tuch goathead sweater, Allen was introduced to a roaring crowd arena and embraced the moment. He screamed “Let’s (expletive) go!” while pumping his arms, then grabbed the ceremonial drumstick and got to work.
After slamming the drum to a “Let’s go Buffalo” chant, Allen flipped the mallet, reached into his back pocket, pulled out a beer and chugged it. It send the building into a frenzy.
A perfect Buffalo moment.
Allen hinted Monday at his Bills minicamp press conference while waring a Sabres hat and sweatshirt that he was hoping to make it to the game after missing Game 1 while on a plane to Buffalo. He said the other passengers cheered the Sabres’ 4-3 comeback victory while landing and he watched the highlights upon arrival.
“For the city of Buffalo, I think it’s a better place when the Sabres are playing well, and it being the first playoff game in, was it 15 years?” Allen said. “It’s a team people kind of wrote off at the beginning part of the season. And they’ve come together rather quickly. They’re playing for each other. You can see that. You can feel that. I think the buzz in the city right now, it’s electric.”
One night later, Allen applied extra voltage.
Sabres vs. Bruins score tonight
Boston leads 4-0 in the third period. Viktor Arvidsson scored the first and fourth goals for the Bruins.
