Jets social media shares first look at Minkah Fitzpatrick in NY green

Minkah Fitzpatrick’s resume was impressive long before he ever became a member of the New York Jets. The veteran safety arrived in the NFL carrying the credentials of one of the most accomplished defensive backs of his generation.

After multiple Pro Bowl appearances, All-Pro honors, and more than a few game-changing plays, he finds himself beginning a new chapter in New York. Recently, the Jets gave fans a glimpse of the new guy.

The team’s social media account shared a photo of the 29-year-old wearing the organization’s legacy green uniform. That offered supporters an early look at one of the franchise’s most important offseason additions.

Before he became an NFL star, Fitzpatrick was a standout for the Alabama Crimson Tide. There, he helped to continue building one of college football’s modern dynasties at Alabama.

The Miami Dolphins selected him with the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but his career soon took a different path. After one rookie season and two games into his second year, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The move proved beneficial for both Fitzpatrick and Pittsburgh. Over the next several seasons, he developed into one of the league’s elite safeties, earning five Pro Bowl selections and three First-Team All-Pro honors.

As excitement builds around the upcoming season, some observers have wondered whether Fitzpatrick can still perform.

It is a fair question. Time eventually catches every player, and expectations should always be tempered when evaluating veterans entering a new situation. What if Fitzpatrick isn’t the player that he used to be?

Then again, maybe a better question needs to be asked. What if he is and still has more high-level football left to play?

The Jets acquired him because they believed he could address a need in the secondary and help stabilize a defense searching for answers. If he rediscovers even a portion of the form that earned him multiple All-Pro selections, New York’s defense could look significantly different this fall.

Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 offseason.
