New York Jets running back Breece Hall is entering a fate-deciding contract year. If Hall enjoyed a better campaign in 2024, he would have positioned himself for an extension this offseason.
Instead, the former Iowa State standout rushed for a modest 876 yards and a career-low 4.2 yards per carry.
Regardless, Hall has been attentive to the shifting market. Another update arrived on Wednesday morning when the Jets’ AFC East rival Buffalo Bills inked ball-carrier James Cook to a four-year extension worth $48 million, with $30 million guaranteed. Cook had been holding-in for an extension and received a lucrative agreement.
Cook’s extension is similar to the one signed by Los Angeles Rams rusher Kyren Williams (three years, $33 million). Hall was asked about the contracts signed by Cook and Williams. Hall’s response displayed good situational awareness.
“They’ve [Cook and Williams] done more than me,” Hall told reporters. “They’ve been in better situations. I feel like I’m just as talented as anyone but those two guys deserve their payday and got what they deserve.”
The Jets are entering the 2025 campaign encouraged by their offensive line.
Quartervack Justin Fields is a dual-threat quarterback who will place stress on opposing defenses.
Hall could take advantage of his surroundings to endure a career-best year, positioning himself for an extension next offseason. It’s up to Hall to maximize his opportunity.
It remains to be seen how the Jets’ backfield works out after head coach Aaron Glenn teased a “committee” approach earlier this offseason… but Hall is considered the most talented running back on New York’s roster.
Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2025 season.
