The New York Jets will held their first practice on training camp on Wednesday. All eyes were on the quarterbacks.
With a long camp looming, sophomore undrafted free agent quarterback Brady Cook is firmly on the team’s roster bubble.
The Jets reunited with veteran Geno Smith earlier this offseason to be a stopgap starter. General manager Darren Mougey also drafted former Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik with a fourth-round pick during the 2026 NFL draft.
The Jets may not have to carry more than those two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, as they’re the only ones actually expected to play this season.
Cook was unfortunately forced to play for the Jets as a rookie before he was ready. The former Missouri standout struggled in 2025, throwing for two touchdowns and seven interceptions while appearing in five games. Cook completed just 57.5% of his passing attempts, threw for 739 yards, and averaged a lackluster 4.9 yards per attempt.
Cook did not perform like an NFL-caliber quarterback. He’ll be tasked with proving he’s grown and developed this offseason while competing for the QB3 role with veteran Bailey Zappe.
Cook enters camp likelier to wind up on the practice squad as opposed to the Jets’ final 53-man roster.
