IMPACT-X Performance fitness center debuts on Lake Road in Horseheads

For several years, a popular local gym, Journey Fitness, operated in the former Ames plaza at 3162 Lake Road in Horseheads before closing in 2024.

It turns out, Journey Fitness never really went away; it just morphed into a new entity, IMPACT-X Performance.

IMPACT-X is more than just a gym, said owner and head coach Jeff Case. It’s a full-service fitness facility, including personalized training, recovery services, spa services, stretch therapy, and life coaching, among other features, Case said.

“IMPACT-X Performance represents the next chapter of our mission here in Horseheads. We’ve always believed that fitness should be personal, purposeful, and rooted in community,” he said.

“This rebrand allows us to elevate the experience — combining expert coaching, intentional recovery, and a culture that truly cares about the whole person. We’re excited to continue serving our community with even greater clarity, energy, and impact.”

IMPACT-X Performance is affiliated with a national chain founded by motivational speaker and sports training industry leader Todd Durkin, Case said.

Case and his staff were joined by representatives from the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce and other guests Friday, March 27, for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“We’re very grateful. Small business is the heartbeat of the community,” said Mike Rogers, a representative of state Sen. Tom O’Mara. “You make Chemung County a better place to live.”

Case’s wife, Biz, is also a partner in the business as a coach and nutritionist. They have a staff of eight or nine coaches who help members meet their goals.

The company motto is “Be the light.”

“Our previous mascot was a phoenix. Now we’re a lighthouse,” Case said. “We went from ashes to being a beacon.”

The facility is open 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays, 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, and 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturdays.
