Greece hotel ordered to close over safety concerns

The Greece Town Board voted unanimously Thursday to close the M6 Studio hotel, citing ongoing fire code violations, public safety concerns and frequent calls for police and emergency services.

The hotel, located at 600 Center Place Dr., has been ordered to cease operations at 9 a.m. June 29.

Why is the hotel being closed?

Town officials said ownership of the hotel changed in March 2026, requiring the property to pass fire and property code inspections before a special-use permit can be issued.

According to the town, the hotel currently has more than a dozen unresolved fire safety and property code violations. Officials also cited a significant number of police and emergency response calls tied to the property.

“The safety of hotel guests and neighborhood residents is our number one priority,” Greece Town Supervisor Jeff McCann said in a statement. “We need hotel ownership to prove that they can operate this property in a safe, clean and healthy manner.”

Concerns from neighbors

Town officials said they have worked with hotel ownership to address the violations but determined that insufficient progress had been made.

Second Ward Councilman Spencer Bernard said nearby residents have raised concerns about the property’s impact on the neighborhood.

“Neighbors should not have to contend with issues like loitering, loud music, and trash and debris emanating from the hotel on a daily basis,” Bernard said. “A hotel should not generate this level of police activity.”

What happens next?

The hotel’s owners will have an opportunity to seek reconsideration of their special-use permit at the Greece Town Board’s July 16 meeting.

Town officials said the board and town administration will review whether sufficient progress has been made in addressing the fire, safety and property maintenance issues before determining whether the hotel can reopen.
