IKEA will open a store in early 2027 at the Walden Galleria in Cheektowaga, Erie County, mall owner Pyramid Management Group announced June 15.
The store will take up 67,000 square feet of a former Sears store at the north end of the shopping center, which is off Thruway (I-90) Exit 53 west.
“Guests can expect the full IKEA experience, including their signature showroom, marketplace, and, of course, the beloved Swedish Bistro,” the statement said.
The Swedish retail giant known for its affordable modern goods opened its first upstate store last year at another Pyramid property — Destiny USA in Syracuse. That location measures around 70,000 square feet.
Traditional IKEA stores are 200,000 to 500,000 square feet. The Brooklyn IKEA spans 346,000 square feet.
The Buffalo-area IKEA expects to pull in shoppers from across western and upstate New York as well as Southern Ontario, Canada, and Pennsylvania.
“This addition is game-changing for the shopping center and further solidifies Walden Galleria’s place as a leading destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment in western New York,” said Pyramid CEO Stephen J. Congel.
