I-490 lane reductions begin for pavement rehabilitation

The New York state Department of Transportation recently announced lane reductions beginning this week in Genesee and Monroe County.

To accommodate a pavement rehabilitation project, drivers should expect lane reductions along I-490 at different locations in Monroe and Genesee County.

I-490 will be reduced to an intermittent single lane starting from Exit 2, near State Route 33/State Route 33A in Bergen of Genesee County, to Exit 6, near State Route 204 East and the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport in Monroe County. Drivers can expect lane reductions in both directions.

Work on the eastbound lanes will take place during the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Work on the westbound lanes will take place during the hours of 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Monday through Saturday.

Drivers should also anticipate lane reductions on the ramps between Exits 2 through 6. Traffic will be controlled by traffic barrels and cones.

The project is expected to be completed just in time for the July 4 holiday this year.

Drivers should anticipate travel delays during this time and are advised to seek alternate routes if necessary. Construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change based on conditions.

The DOT urges drivers to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
