The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after kayakers discovered human remains along the break wall at Blind Sodus Bay in the town of Wolcott.
Deputies responded after receiving a 911 call on Saturday, July 11, reporting that kayakers had found what appeared to be human remains.
Remains sent for forensic examination
Sheriff’s deputies recovered the remains, which consisted of a human foot inside a hiking boot.
The remains have been sent to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office for forensic examination as investigators work to determine their identity.
Investigation continues
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said it is working with additional law enforcement agencies, including American and Canadian authorities, as part of the investigation.
No additional information has been released. Authorities said more details will be provided as they become available.
