Tioga Opportunities Inc. has received significant funding from New York state to provide local seniors with enhanced independent living by expanding safety and accessibility.
NYS Division of Homes and Community Renewal’s RESTORE program — Residential Emergency Services to Offer (Home) Repairs to the Elderly — awarded Tioga Opportunities Inc. $200,000. The funding will be used to provide emergency home repairs to address issues such as leaking roofs or pipes, and the installation of water heaters and well pumps.
In a press release announcing the funding, Chet Babcock, the Director of Energy Services, said addressing the immediate needs of seniors allows them to “remain independent where they feel most comfortable.”
Babcock went on to say, “Every repair and update allows our customers to stay connected to their neighborhoods, continue their daily routines, and enjoy life at home.”
TOI was also awarded $150,000 for its Access to Home program, which ensures homes are equipped with the necessary accessibility components for individuals with disabilities.
The program helps install wheelchair ramps and lifts, handrails, doorway widening and walk-in showers to give people the confidence to be mobile in their own home.
