Goshen Plaza has a new Indian restaurant that caters to all

The Goshen Plaza has a new restaurant, The Aroma Indian Kitchen and Bar, offering Indian food for vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters alike.

The establishment opened its doors on April 30, according to co-owner Sukhbir Singh, who can be found at hand at Aroma, serving and talking to customers.

This is Singh’s first restaurant as an owner after having worked in the hospitality industry for 26 years. He started out as a cook in Greece, hailing from the state of Haryana in India. Now working in Orange County and living in Sullivan County, Singh calls his immigration journey “destiny.”

“Just sort of life, how life sort of unfolded,” Singh said. “Yeah, to get a better life, you know. That’s all.”

How did Aroma come about?

Singh began planning the restaurant in 2020 with co-owner Haroon Athwal, whom he considers “like a brother, cousin, everything.” After conducting a few feasibility studies on foot, the two decided that their culinary ideas would add flavors to the local community.

“Community for me is surrounding, my surroundings,” Singh said, clarifying that the term was not defined by religion or background, “all the surrounding areas like Goshen, Warwick, Florida, Chester and Middletown.”

What’s on the menu?

Aroma serves many popular South Asian vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, staples, snacks and drinks from India, including vegetable samosas, dal tadka, gobi manchurian, a variety of naans and mango lassi.

The restaurant emphasizes dish prep “from scratch,” with fresh vegetables and ingredients to create just the right sense of fragrance, which may draw someone in to eat. Levels of spiciness are offered to cater to all tastes. Not all Indian food is spicy, said Singh.

A family platter may offer a good way to try a variety of dishes.

The restaurant also offers takeout, delivery and catering for corporate events and gatherings.

Where, when, how much?

The Aroma Indian Kitchen & Bar is located at 92 Clowes Ave. in the Goshen Plaza. The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily.
