Girls Lacrosse Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital

The Section 1 regular season finished with a flurry, quickly segueing into the opening round of the playoffs, and Rye Country Day School and Hackley concluded their seasons with runs to their respective league finals. With consideration to the outstanding performances from the closing games of the regular season and the playoffs, we’ve got 12 candidates for Girls Lacrosse Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital.

Our previous poll winners this season were Sofia Conners (Somers), Fin Degl (John Jay-Cross River), Emily Butler (Tappan Zee), Amelia Walsh (Brewster), Olivia Saccomanno (Brewster), Lauren Rogers (White Plains), Ella Wendol (Putnam Valley) and Scarlett Gristina (Pelham).

Read below about what the nominees accomplished last week, then cast your votes. The poll will be open until 3 p.m. Thursday, May 28, and the winner will be featured on lohud sports social media accounts.

Harper Canell, Harrison

The senior had five goals and four assists for Harrison in a 13-11 win over Byram Hills in the Huskies’ regular-season finale last Monday.

Bridget Frazer, Hackley

She had five goals and two assists to lead No. 4 Hackley in a 14-9 upset of top-seeded Fieldston in the NYSAIS semifinals. Frazier went on to score three goals in the Hornets’ eventual loss to Poly Prep in the league final.

Ella Gould, Nyack

The senior had six goals and two assists to lead the RedHawks in a 16-13 win over Suffern to close the regular season last week. That win helped Nyack climb to No. 22 in the nation, according to USA Lacrosse Magazine.

Cailin Hanrahan, Ursuline

The midfielder scored five goals and had seven draw controls and three forced turnovers, leading the Koalas to a decisive win over Ossining in the first round of the Section 1 Class A playoffs.

Kaeleigh Larkin, Nanuet

She had seven goals and an assist for the 10th-seeded Golden Knights in an 18-12 win over No. 7 Ardsley in the first round of the Section 1 Class C playoffs.

Elle Mason, Rye Country Day School

The junior had five goals and four draw controls to lead the Wildcats in a 13-9 win over Greenwich Academy in the Fairchester Athletic Association final. This was the program’s third consecutive league championship after winning the NYSAIS title the previous two years.

Caitlyn Mayfield, Somers

The midfielder had four goals, four assists, two draw controls and a groundball recovery, and contributed to a lights-out defense, as Somers topped Sleepy Hollow in the opening round of the Class C playoffs. Mayfield also scored six goals in their 16-15 win over Arlington to close the regular season.

Charlotte Murray, Bronxville

She had six goals, three assists, four draw controls, two groundballs and a caused turnover to lead the Broncos in a win over Albertus Magnus in the first round of the Section 1 Class D playoffs.

Katelyn Quinlan, Croton-Harmon

The midfielder scored four goals and won 17 draw controls, leading the Tigers in a dominant win over Dobbs Ferry in the opening round of the Section 1 Class D playoffs.

Federica Ricciardella, Irvington

The senior had three goals and four assists for the 14th-seeded Bulldogs in a 15-6 win over No. 3 Rye Neck in the first round of the Class D playoffs.

Kayla Ruggiero, Haldane

The senior had seven goals, an assist, nine draw controls and five groundballs to lead the Blue Devils in a 15-12 win over Blind Brook, earning the first Section 1 playoff victory in program history.

Maeve Traynor, New Rochelle

She scored six goals, including the winner in double overtime as the Huguenots eked out a 15-14 win over Tuckahoe in their season finale. Traynor also had two assists and nine draw controls.
