Saugerties sophomore Kate Smith captured the Section 9 girls golf championship by nine strokes in the two-round event at par-68 Apple Greens Golf Course in Highland on May 20 and 26.
Smith carded a 3-under-par 68 in the first round and a 75 on day two, losing only two strokes of her first-round margin.
Isabella Ok of Goshen shot the best second round of 73 to edge Alexandra Young of Onteora by two strokes for second place. Heidi Maeng of Beacon was fourth and Marlboro’s Alexa Trapani fifth.
The final four qualifying spots for the state meet were Monroe-Woodbury’s Leah Sheerin; Marlboro’s Madison Markle; Ellenville’s Hadley Walsh; and, Kingston’s Hannah Murphy.
