When was the Poughkeepsie Journal founded?
The Journal’s roots go back to 1785, when Nicholas Power began publishing The Country Journal and The Poughkeepsie Advertiser. His four-page weekly newspaper was the first of tens of thousands of issues leading up to today’s Poughkeepsie Journal, which began publishing daily in 1860.
Besides being the oldest newspaper in New York, the Journal is the second oldest in the United States, and one of 11 newspapers that have been in continual publication since the 18th century.
The Poughkeepsie Journal serves readers in Dutchess and Ulster counties in New York.
Our website, poughkeepsiejournal.com, together with our digital mobile and tablet platforms, provides breaking news, photos, videos and other content not appearing in the print newspaper.
