Mya Herman spent years terrorizing defenses around Monroe County as a member of Canandaigua’s varsity girls basketball team. Now she’s bringing those skills to the Sunshine State.
Herman recently announced that she is committing to the University of Miami to join the Hurricanes’ women’s basketball program.
“Truly blessed and ready to get to work!” Herman said in a social media post announcing her commitment.
Herman was a three-time All-Greater Rochester selection during her varsity career at Canandaigua. As a senior, Herman reached 1,000 career points while leading the Braves to the Section V Class A title and an appearance in the New York state final. She was named a second team all-state selection after the season.
After graduation Herman spent three seasons at Southeastern University, where she developed into the Fire’s top offensive player this past season. In 2025-26, Herman led the team with 569 points (17.8 per game) and 83 3-pointers while shooting 52.9% from the field and 44.9% from behind the arc.
Herman scored in double digits in each of Southeastern’s 32 games this past winter. She is a two-time first team All-Sun Conference.
Looking ahead, Herman joins a Miami program that finished with 18 wins and 15 losses in 2025-26, and has not qualified for the NCAA tournament in three years.
