A flood watch has been issued for New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley from 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, through Wednesday evening as multiple rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms could trigger flash flooding.
The National Weather Service issued the watch for New York City and Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties.
Forecasters expect several rounds of showers and thunderstorms to move through the region, producing widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches, with isolated areas receiving up to 4 inches.
The strongest storms could produce rainfall rates of up to 2.5 inches per hour, increasing the risk of flooding on roads, in parking lots, basements, low-lying areas, and along rivers, creeks and streams.

Tuesday
Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79 degrees.
Showers and thunderstorms are possible during the morning, with showers and thunderstorms becoming more likely after 2 p.m.
Winds will be 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 23 mph.
More than an inch of rain is possible, with localized flooding.
Tuesday night will remain unsettled, with showers and thunderstorms possible. Lows will be around 69 degrees, with winds of 6 to 9 mph and gusts up to 24 mph.
Wednesday
Showers are likely throughout the day, with a chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m.
Highs will be near 78 degrees.
Another inch or more of rain is possible, with localized flooding.
Wednesday night will bring showers and a possible thunderstorm before 2 a.m., followed by additional showers into Thursday morning. Lows will be around 67 degrees.
Thursday
Showers are possible during the morning, with thunderstorms likely after 2 p.m.
Otherwise, skies will become partly sunny with a high near 78 degrees. Winds will be around 8 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.
Thursday night will be mostly cloudy, with lows around 67 degrees.
Friday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 82 degrees.
Friday night will be partly cloudy, with lows around 69 degrees.
Saturday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 84 degrees.
Saturday night will be mostly cloudy, with lows around 71 degrees.
Sunday
Partly sunny, with another chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Highs will be near 81 degrees.
Sunday night will remain unsettled, with additional showers possible and lows around 71 degrees.
