After decades of service to the Utica community, Edward Jackson Sr. was named grand marshal of Utica’s Fourth of July Parade.
In a statement released on July 3, Utica parade officials said the 20-year U.S. Navy veteran has been a vital park of Utica’s civic life and is being honored with the grand marshal position.
“[Jackson] co-founded the Cornhill Development Commission and Cornhill Community for Change, helped create the Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Park, and serves with the Utica Youth Bureau, Mohawk Valley Latino Association, and Utica Citizens in Action,” parade officials said in a statement.
The Utica Fourth of July parade will take place on July 4.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. and will last for around an hour and a half. A temporary no-parking ban will be set for the parade route from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The parade route will be closed to traffic beginning at 9 a.m. and the associated road closures/detours will last until approximately 1 p.m.
All traffic destined for the MVHS School of Nursing, to include any other entities located on the campus, should utilize the entrance/exit off Ballantyne Brae.
The road closures/detours associated with the Party and Fireworks in FT Proctor Park begin at 5 p.m.
