New York Giants defensive tackle D.J. Reader participated in organized team activities (OTAs) on Wednesday after missing the first week of voluntary workouts.
Cornerback Dru Phillips and veteran fullback Patrick Ricard were also seen at OTAs for the first time, as players continue to ease back into their in-season routines.
Reader signed a two-year deal with the Giants worth $12.5 million earlier this month, and his participation in OTAs this week is an extremely promising sign ahead of training camp.
Reader is expected to play a critical role on the Giants’ defensive line this season following the departure of superstar defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II. The 10-year veteran spent the past two seasons with the Detroit Lions and showed he still has plenty left in the tank during his time there.
Reader recorded 28 total tackles and four quarterback hits while starting all 17 games for the Lions last season. He will play a key role for the Giants moving forward and will look to build chemistry with his new teammates during OTAs and training camp this summer.
Phillips and Ricard are also expected to play significant roles at their respective positions this season. Overall, the trio’s participation in OTAs this week is an encouraging development.
