Could the Nets put out an offer sheet for Nuggets' Peyton Watson?

The Brooklyn Nets could be looking to improve as much as possible this offseason after coming off 2025-26 NBA season in which they finished with a lowly 20-62 record. Brooklyn should be able to add a talented player with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, but could they also add a player in free-agency such as Denver Nuggets forward Peyton Watson?

“This is definitely a bold prediction given the rarity of offer sheets these days, but the Brooklyn Nets seem more likely than most to buck the trend,” Grant Hughes wrote on the Nets for Bleacher Report. Hughes wrote that he believes that the Nets will tender an offer sheet to one of the restricted free-agents this offseason since they’re likely to be aggressive in adding talent to the roster.

“Restricted free agents like Jalen Duren, Tari Eason, Walker Kessler and Peyton Watson should all be on notice,” Hughes continued. “The Nets project to have as much as $47.9 million in room under the cap and are enough of a blank slate to regroup if another team matches their offer sheet. Worst case, Brooklyn can adopt backup plans like using its flexibility to absorb salary via trade or taking its pick in a market environment that should feature lots of bargains for teams capable of spending above the midlevel.”

Watson, 23, is coming off the best season as he averaged 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 49.1% from the field and 41.1% from behind the three-point line. With Watson being a restricted free-agent, the Nuggets have a better chance of retaining him given that they could match an offer sheet to prevent him from leaving.

Brooklyn could free up as much around $48 million this summer depending on certain moves they make and if Watson wants more money than Denver is willing to pay him, the Nets could be there to swoop in. Granted, there is plenty of time this summer for general manager Sean Marks and the front office to see which free-agents they’re interested in, but Watson might be on the table as well.
