The New York Giants have long had an underwhelming group at the linebacker position since the Lawrence Taylor era.
Things change eventually, however. New York signed veteran linebacker Tremaine Edmunds in free agency earlier this offseason and selected Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese with the fifth overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Reese was widely regarded as the top non-quarterback available on draft night.
Edmunds is an extremely talented veteran who will play an essential role on the Giants’ defense this season. The former Chicago Bears star will also serve as an excellent mentor to Reese. An eight-year NFL veteran and two-time Pro Bowler, Edmunds will have a direct impact on the rising star.
Edmunds has recorded 100 or more tackles in every NFL season he has played. The linebacker originally emerged as a star during his time with the Buffalo Bills, continued to improve throughout his career, and remained highly productive during his stint in Chicago.
Reese was considered by many to be the top overall player in college football last season.
The duo will have a direct impact on each other’s success this season, and Edmunds will undoubtedly help Reese both on and off the gridiron throughout his rookie campaign.
