Republican Carson Doorley was elected mayor of Arkport in the March 18 village election.
A physical therapist at St. James Hospital and a political newcomer, Doorley easily bested Democratic village trustee Patricia Amidon, racking up 110 votes to 38 for Amidon.
Doorley will take office in April, succeeding two-term Democrat George Prete who did not run for reelection.
In an advance interview with the Evening Tribune, Doorley said he was “running for mayor to prioritize the future growth and development of Arkport.”
“My goal is to make Arkport a place where families want to live by making decisions that benefit both current residents and future generations,” Doorley stated. “I plan to bring a fresh perspective, focusing on family-centered improvements while preserving the small-town culture and history that makes Arkport such a special community.”
Arkport Republicans also picked up wins in the village board races, with incumbent Ryan Beers reelected with 122 votes and Eric Houy taking the other seat after totaling 107 votes.
Democratic trustee candidate Timothy Quinlan finished third after receiving 29 votes.
All the elections were for two-year terms.
Here are other area election results from March 18 voting.
North Hornell
Joseph Flint was elected to a four-year term as mayor. A Republican and the current deputy mayor, Flint racked up 63 votes in an unopposed race. He earned a four-year term.
Current North Mayor J. Joseph Ingalls did not run for reelection after serving one term.
Incumbent trustees Frank Libordi and Elise McCollumn were returned to the board. Libordi picked up 57 votes and McCollumn had 36 to win the seats. They earned two-year terms.
Canisteo
Incumbent Republican trustees Greg Woodworth and David Robinson were reelected running unopposed. Robinson had 33 votes and Woodworth earned 30. Their new two-year terms begin in April.
For village justice, incumbent Republican Madeleine Seaman was reelected with 33 votes.
Alfred
Incumbent village trustee Meredith Field, who ran on both the Democratic and Republican line, won reelection, picking up 61 votes. Democrat James Cronin Jr. won a seat, finishing with 55 votes. Republican Stuart Yangiger had 10 votes.
The trustee terms are for two years.
Belmont
Republican incumbent trustee Linda Healy and Democrat Shannon Harding won four-year terms, with 72 and 69 votes, respectively.
Republican incumbent Vincent Evans finished with 49 votes.
Republican Belmont Mayor Ray DeTine was reelected with 88 votes. DeTine starts a new four-year term in April.
Wayland
In a race to fill a one-year vacancy on the Wayland Village Board, Republican David Pragle defeated Democrat David Stevens, 51-26.
Democrat Melonie Coley was elected to a three-year term to fill a vacancy on the village board. Coley, who was not opposed, picked up 57 votes.
Addison
Incumbent Trustee Lorne Hults and fellow Republican Richard Cilino won two-year board terms. Hults picked up 47 votes and Cilino received 28.
Bath
Incumbent Republican Michael Sweet was reelected running unopposed. Sweet picked up 57 votes to win a two-year term.
Incumbent Republican village trustees Melanie Coots and James Spencer were reelected to two-year terms. Coots had 62 votes and Spencer had 60.
Savona
Incumbent trustee Jessica Stevens and newcomer Duane Basch were each elected to serve four-year terms as village trustees. Stevens picked up 14 votes and Basch received 13.
Both will be sworn-in April 3, at Savona Village Hall.
Canaseraga
Incumbent trustees Shawn Brewster and Larene Lang were reelected to two-year terms. They finished with 14 votes and 11 votes, respectively. Both were cross-endorsed and ran unopposed.
Cohocton
Republican incumbent trustees Kathryn Gray and Mathew McCarthy were the only candidates for a pair of two-year terms.
Avoca
Rebekah Abbott, who has served as chair of the Avoca Planning Board, was the only candidate for a two-year term on the board of trustees.
Hammondsport
Democrats Deborah Lynch and Jason McLoud ran for the two seats on the village of Hammondsport Board of Trustees. The terms are for two years.
