Brandon Beane can’t help himself. He traded down in the first round again. And then he did it one more time. And, because this is what the Bills GM does, he made a third trade and moved out of the first round all together.
Starting the night with just seven picks, and only two in the first 125, Beane was determined to upgrade his draft capital and he did so.
First, he traded down from No. 26 to No. 28 overall in a deal with the Houston Texans. The Bills sent picks No. 26 and No. 91 overall to Houston and received picks No. 28, No. 69 in the third and No. 167 in the fifth.
He then traded down to No. 31 with the New England Patriots. The Bills grabbed pick No. 125 along with the first-round pick.
Beane then flipped the No. 31 pick to the Tennessee Titans, along with picks No. 69 and No. 165 for picks Nos. 35, 66 and 101.
The move allows Buffalo to stay in the first round while adding additional draft capital, including a second selection in the top 70.
The trade came after a run on players the Bills were linked to, as Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion went No. 24 to the Browns and Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman was selected No. 25 by the Bears.
