Brad Bellinger will coach the Elmira Notre Dame boys basketball team on an interim basis in the 2026-27 season, stepping in for Nick Weiermiller.
Weiermiller is taking a leave from coaching as he focuses on his family and the health battle of his 1-year-old son Colton, who was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate.
Weiermiller coached the Crusaders the previous eight seasons, leading them to the Section 4 Class C title earlier this year. He said he plans to return to coaching in the 2027-28 season.
Bellinger, the all-time leading scorer for Elmira Southside, is Notre Dame’s athletic director. He coached END’s varsity baseball team from 2022 until 2025, highlighted by the Section 4 Class D title in 2025.
Bellinger coached Notre Dame’s junior varsity boys basketball team from 2019 to 2021, was an assistant varsity coach for Elmira High School in 2022, then returned to Notre Dame as an assistant coach in 2023. Bellinger has been Notre Dame’s AD for the last three years.
“We wish Coach Weiermiller well on his year sabbatical from coaching varsity basketball and are delighted Mr. Bellinger has stepped forward to coach our players this school year,” Bernadette McClelland, head of school at Notre Dame, said in a press release from the school.
