Newburgh Free Academy’s Josh Yan holds a one-stroke lead after the first round of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association boys golf tournament on Sunday, June 7.
The final round will be played Monday.
Yan fired a 4-under par 67 at the Mill Creek Golf Club in Churchville. He got off strong, posting a birdie on hole No. 2, an eagle on No. 5, a bogey on No. 7 and birdie on No. 8, going out in 33. On the back nine, he carded birdies on Nos. 13 and 15 and a bogey on No. 17, coming in at 34.
Yan leads Braden Sentz of Cooperstown by one stroke, and is up two on Brayden Thomas of Jamesville-DeWitt and Charles Nevin of Friends Academy.
