Boston Scott, the former Philadelphia Eagles running back long known as a thorn in the New York Giants’ side, announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday via social media.
The undersized 5-foot-6 back, originally a sixth-round pick by the New Orleans Saints out of Louisiana Tech in 2018, joined the Eagles late that season from the Saints’ practice squad. He spent six productive years in Philadelphia (2018-2023), appearing in 75 games with 12 starts.
Scott compiled 1,295 rushing yards on 302 carries (4.3 yards per attempt) and 16 rushing touchdowns, adding 71 receptions for 566 yards and one receiving score.
His most remarkable performances came against the Giants, where he earned the moniker “Giant Killer.” In 10 games against New York, Scott amassed 422 rushing yards on 90 carries (4.7 average) and nine rushing touchdowns, plus 17 catches for 222 yards and one receiving touchdown—totaling 10 scores and 644 scrimmage yards.
Standout moments included a three-touchdown game in the 2019 season finale that helped clinch the NFC East title and earned him NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors, as well as a game-winning touchdown reception in 2020.
After 2023, Scott had brief stints on the practice squads of the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers, but was never elevated.
In his retirement statement, Scott expressed deep gratitude.
“I’m thankful for everything the game has given me and my family,” Scott said in his statement. “I’m thankful for the coaches, teammates, and staff throughout my career that believed in me even when it wasn’t popular. Looking back at my career I’m just in awe of what God was able to accomplish, from a Walk-on who almost had to drop out of college to many years at the highest level, a lot of it doesn’t make sense and I believe that’s the point.”
Giants fans may breathe easier without the persistent threat Scott posed, while Eagles supporters will fondly remember the reliable contributor who consistently rose against their rivals
