Blanford leads Ladies All-City Team at Corning's Crystal Lanes

Samantha Blanford carried the highest average this season at Crystal Lanes and therefore she earns the mythical crown of captain of the Ladies All-City First-Team. She is joined on the first team by Heather Farr, Dakota Evans, Hailey Blencowe and Anita Gennosa.

If there was such an award as Rookie of the Year at the local lanes, Samantha would have taken that crown as well, but there is no such animal. She definitely had a banner year in her first year of competition at Crystal Lanes. Samantha turned in the highest average of the season for the ladies with a 208 mark for SKS Racing in the Monday Night Mixed League. She was nearly a full-time sub in the Joey’s Contracting Mixed League where she finished with a 208 average in 78 games.

During the latter part of the campaign, Samantha became a regular sub in the Magic Rays Cleaning Service Ladies League where she posted a 207 average in 42 games. She finished the season with ladies-best eight scores over 700.

Heather Farr enjoyed her best season to date when she finished with a 206 average for the ‘A’ Team in the Gabe’s Grille Ladies League. Heather rolled three 700s this season including a ladies best score of 756. In the same league, Dakota Evans earned her berth on the First Team by finishing with a 202 average for the Rogue Rebels.

Hailey Blencowe has been named to the First Team every year since she began bowling four years ago and this season was no different. Hailey ended the season for Fran’s Landing in the Savona Storage Ladies League with a 201 mark. Along the way she posted a pair of 700s.

Rounding out the Ladies All-City First-Team is Anita Gennosa. The newly inducted Corning-Post Sports Hall of Famer had another solid season. While she didn’t reach that 200 mark in average, she finished two leagues at 199 and another with a 198 average. Close enough.

Anita led the ladies in the Tyoga Container/Cortright Mixed League with a 199 average for Livin of a Spare and matched that mark for Crystal Lanes in the Magic Rags League. And just for good measure her 198 average led the regular ladies in the Joey’s League for Custom Chiropractic.

LADIES ALL-CITY, SECOND-TEAM

Landing on the Ladies All-City, Second Team were Deon Frost, Kayla Blanford, Cheryl Rice, Beth Smith and Kiana Baker.

Deon Frost, who has been named to more Ladies All-City teams than anyone, has secured yet another berth this season.

Deon Frost earned her spot on the Second Team by virtue of her 197 average for Crystal Lanes in the Magic Rags Ladies League.

Kayla Blanford also enjoyed much success during her first year of competition at Crystal Lanes. She joined her sister on the SKS Racing squad in the Monday Night Mixed League and finished with a 192 average. During the season she also notched a pair of 700s.

Cheryl Rice has also seen a number of All-City berths over the years. She earned her Second Team nod this season with a 193 average for Payne Processing in the Ruth Briggs Memorial Mixed League and she also notched a 192 mark for Joey’s Contracting in the Magic Rags League.

Beth Smith becomes the third member of the Crystal Lanes team in the Magic Rags League to make all-city mention. Beth finished with a 190 with the help of a 707 series earlier this season.

Rounding out the All-City Second Team is Kiana Baker. She finished the season with a 190 average for CRS in the Gabe’s Grille Ladies League.

Please note that the naming of these teams have nothing to do with Crystal Lanes, the Corning Bowling Association or any other self-recognized bowling organization. It’s just my way of recognizing season long accomplishments by the bowlers who competed this season at Crystal Lanes.

Next week we will present the Men’s All-City Teams.
