Amazon introduces 30-minute delivery service. Is it available in NY?

If you forgot to add a gallon of milk to your shopping list and your mashed potatoes won’t be complete without it, you may be in luck this holiday season.

Some Amazon customers can get items delivered to them even more quickly as the company announced it is testing out its new Amazon Now delivery service in select cities across the U.S.

Here’s what to know.

What is Amazon Now?

According to Amazon, Amazon Now is an “ultra-fast” delivery service that “brings thousands of household essential items and groceries to customers’ doorsteps in about 30 minutes or less.”

Is Amazon Now available in New York?

No, not yet. Amazon Now is currently being tested in parts of Seattle, Washington and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the company says.

How much does Amazon Now delivery cost?

It depends. If you’re a Prime member, you can get discounted Amazon Now delivery starting at $3.99 per order. Non-Prime customers will pay $13.99 per order.

There’s also an additional order fee of $1.99 if your order is under $15.

What items can you order through Amazon Now for delivery?

Customers have a variety of items to choose from, including milk, eggs, fresh produce, toothpaste, cosmetics, pet treats, diapers, paper products, electronics, seasonal items, over-the-counter medicines, chips and dips, the company says.

How do you place an Amazon Now order?

If you live in the Seattle or Philadelphia areas, you can visit the Amazon app and homepage and look for the “30-Minute Delivery” option located in the navigation bar to find out if it’s available near you.

Once you make an order, you can track it, according to Amazon. Customers also have the option to tip their driver.

How can Amazon Now deliver so quickly?

Amazon says it’s using “specialized smaller facilities designed for efficient order fulfillment.” These spaces are also strategically placed near many Seattle-area and Philadelphia-area customers.

“This approach prioritizes the safety of employees picking and packing orders, reduces the distance delivery partners need to travel, and enables faster delivery times,” according to the company.
