Addison board sets vote on proposal to dissolve village into town

The Addison Village Board will vote Wednesday, April 29 whether to move forward with a proposal to dissolve the village or to squash the proposal.

Addison Village Mayor Ed Soporowski said the Addison Village Board will vote at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Addison Village Hall.

“We’ve got all the information, so we are going to have a meeting to come up with a decision whether we are going to stop the proposal or let it go to a vote in September,” Soporowski said. “The Village Board’s vote will determine the next stage.”

The proposal was initiated by a petition generated by village taxpayers. If the Village Board and voters ultimately resolve to dissolve the Village government, the decision would result in absorption of governance and services by the Town of Addison.

The Laberge Group, retained by the village to develop a plan providing unbiased assessments regarding the potential impact of dissolution, discussed the potential ramifications of the proposal at a meeting in late March with residents at the Addison Community Center.

Soporowski said everything was explained, and questions were answered with accuracy versus speculation at the March meeting.

The Village has received a New York State Citizen Reorganization Grant to fund the development of the dissolution plan.
