The Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association recently honored its top senior student-athletes for each high school. Liberty High School selected Carmela Burgio and Justin Simon.

Athletic honors: Soccer – team captain; softball – junior varsity team co-captain
Academic honors, extracurricular activities: National Honor Society; student council president, secretary; building leadership teams committee; athletes helping athletes; high honor roll
Community service: Painted school weight room; achievement boards; church dinner server; modified soccer clinic; parent-teacher Conference open house
Future plans: Binghamton University, majoring in occupational speech therapy
Justin Simon
Class rank: 19
Varsity sports: Boys soccer; boys basketball; baseball
Athletic honors: Soccer – Section 9 team semifinalist, all Section 9 team; basketball – team captain; sectionals team participant; baseball – team captain; all-state, all-Section 9 teams
Academic honors, extracurricular activities: National Honor Society; athletes helping athletes mentorship; orchestra; honors advanced placement classes
Community service: Baseball and basketball youth clinics coach; public health outreach photographer; soapbox derby volunteer
Future plans: Western Connecticut State University, majoring in elementary education; compete in baseball
