4 takeaways from Jets GM Darren Mougey at 2026 NFL combine

The New York Jets and rest of the NFL are in business mode at the 2026 NFL combine in Indianapolis throughout this week.

Along with nitpicking and chatting to prospects entering the upcoming draft, New York’s front office spoke at interviews of their own… namely general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn.

With that, here are four takeaways from Mougey’s combine press conference:

Breece feelings

Despite any signs running back Breece Hall might want to leave New York and test free agency, he shouldn’t get his hopes up. Mougey said he’s planning to keep Hall a Jet, even if that means the franchise tag.

“We’ll find a way to keep Breece here if we can’t get a deal done,” Mougey said. “The tags are an option.”

QB potential in free agency

Mougey swung at Justin Fields and missed in Year 1. While that free-agent addition at QB did not work, Mougey won’t shy away from addressing the position in free agency again.

Will McDonald’s future

Pass rusher Will McDonald is entering the fourth year of his NFL career. As the Jets’ first-round pick in 2023, the team has to decide this spring whether or not they will exercise the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

Jermaine Johnson was traded after Mougey spoke at the combine, but when McDonald was noted by the Jets GM, he was vague.

. “We got time,” Mougey said.

No. 1 pick

The Jets hold the No. 2 overall selection at the 2026 NFL draft. The Las Vegas Raiders sit at the top.

Mougey said don’t get excited about any potential trade up.
