3 quarterbacks the Jets should watch closely at the NFL Scouting Combine

The NFL Scouting Combine will take place from February 23 through March 2. It’s the premier event in the 2026 NFL Draft process. It’s especially notable for the New York Jets this year, who possess the No. 2 overall selection in the draft.

The Jets must address several roster holes this offseason, none more glaring than at quarterback. The NFL Scouting Combine will provide the Jets with an opportunity to meet with and assess quarterback prospects. We’ve identified three in particular they should pay extra close attention to.

Ty Simpson, QB, Alabama

Alabama’s Ty Simpson is the quarterback being commonly connected to the Jets throughout the pre-draft process. He’s seen as the most realistic quarterback to be the second one chosen after expected No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. With Mendoza believed to be skipping throwing drills in Indianapolis, Simpson has a chance to be the most impressive QB in attendance.

Garrett Nussmeier, QB, LSU

Some NFL scouts see Garrett Nussmeier as the top value option available at quarterback. Nussmeier is being discounted by the general public after a disappointing injury-riddled senior season, but scouts remember the version who threw for 29 touchdowns and 4,052 yards in 2024. He may be a starting-caliber QB available in the middle rounds.

Cole Payton, QB, North Dakota State

Cole Payton is toolsy and intriguing. A one-year starter at North Dakota State, Payton threw for 16 touchdowns and rushed for 13 more as a dual-threat quarterback. His playmaking ability could translate to a standout showing at the NFL Scouting Combine.
