A missing 18-year-old has been found dead in the Susquehanna River.
New York State Police announced on May 11 that Dalton G. Malmstrom, of Tioga County, was found dead in the Susquehanna River by the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team and members of the K9 unit.
Malmstrom was last seen leaving his residence at about 7:45 a.m. on May 9 in the 2100 block of East River Road in the Town of Nichols. Family members told police he was “not acting like himself” prior to leaving, according to a press release.
Malmstrom’s disappearance prompted a large-scale search by emergency responders and volunteers from New York and Pennsylvania.
State police troopers were assisted by the Nichols Fire Department, Tioga Center Fire Department, Athens Township Fire Department, Bradford County Office of EMS, Tioga County Office of EMS, Owego Fire Department, Greater Valley Rescue and EMS, Litchfield Fire Department, Bradford County Drone Team, Tioga County Sheriff’s Department and volunteers from New York and Pennsylvania.
