20,000 peanut butter products recalled nationwide, including in New York

Federal officials say more than 20,000 peanut butter products distributed nationwide — including in New York — are being recalled after possible plastic contamination was discovered during manufacturing.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the peanut butter was made by Ventura Foods and sold under multiple brand names in 40 states, including New York. The recall began in April 2025 after inspectors found pieces of blue plastic in a production filter. On Feb. 12, the FDA classified it as a Class II recall.

A Class II recall means the products could cause temporary or medically reversible health problems, but the risk of serious injury is considered low.

Here’s what to know.

What peanut butter products are being recalled?

According to the FDA, the recall includes:

The products were sold under private-label brands including US Foods, DYMA Brands, Flavor Fresh, Sysco House Recipe, Katy’s Kitchen and Gordon Food Service.

Is New York affected?

Yes. The recalled products were distributed in 40 states, including New York.

What should consumers do?

Consumers should check product labels for manufacturer information. Follow guidance from the retailer or manufacturer on whether the recalled items should be returned or thrown away. Anyone who experiences health concerns after consuming the product should contact a medical professional.
