16 student-athletes earn Section V winter honors

Student-athletes across 16 sports were recently recognized by Section V athletics for their performance on and off the field of play.

Each sports season, the section awards $500 scholarships to one athlete from each sport. There were about 80 applicants for the winter 2025-26 season.

Winners are judged based on their high school transcript, activities they participate in, responses to questions in their application form, and a letter of recommendation from their coach.

Here are the honorees for winter 2025-26:

Boys basketball: Quentin Howe, Pittsford Sutherland

Girls basketball: Riley Nageldinger, Keshequa

Boys ice hockey: Matthew Turner, Rush-Henrietta

Boys bowling: Chase Hegedorn Thomann, McQuaid

Girls bowling: Emma Monagle, Midlakes

Boys alpine skiing: Brody Ireland, Victor

Girls alpine skiing: Lily Hirsh, Naples

Boys Nordic skiing: Giovanni Bucci, Brighton

Girls Nordic skiing: Jenna Lawrence, Honeoye Falls-Lima

Boys indoor track and field: Sullivan Williams, Cal-Mum

Girls indoor track and field: Anna Spagnola, Our Lady of Mercy

Boys swimming and diving: Simon Aguilar, Geneseo

Boys wrestling: Gage Thomas, Haverling

Girls wrestling: Rose Southwick, Red Creek

Competitive cheerleading: Grace Kaufmann, Avon

Riflery: Elizabeth Wright, Perry
