New York State Police confirmed 10 of the approximately 23 passengers aboard a bus that rolled over on the Thruway July 21 were injured.
Troopers said those injuries were not considered life threatening. Those passengers were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The uninjured passengers were transported by bus to a reunification center established by the Ulster County Office of Emergency Management, from which point they continued on their trip.
State police said a preliminary investigation determined that the bus was traveling from Schenectady to New York City.
The rollover happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. July 21 at mile marker 69.5 in the southbound lanes of the Thruway. That is approximately nine or 10 miles north of the Newburgh exit and five or six miles south of the New Paltz exit.
The left lanes on both the southbound and northbound sides of the Thruway were closed for several hours following the rollover.
The bus driver, identified as Zhangrong Wang, 44, of Woodside, showed no signs of impairment. Troopers said no tickets have been issued at this time, but their investigation is continuing.
State police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information regarding it to contact their Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Highland at 845-344-5300.
In addition to the Ulster County Office of Emergency Management, state police were assisted at the scene by New Paltz Rescue, Wallkill Ambulance, Plattekill Fire EMS, Ambulnz, Town of Newburgh EMS, Empress EMS and Esopus Ambulance; the Plattekill, Cronomer Valley, Modena, New Paltz and Wallkill fire departments; and the SUNY New Paltz Police Department.
