Zach Wahls has demonstrated character for decades

I’m writing to support Zach Wahls for the U.S. Senate. I’ve lived in Iowa for 37 years, raised two sons here, and I’ve known Zach and his family since he was 9 years old through church, work and Boy Scouts.

I’ve seen Zach’s character and compassion firsthand. As a young adult, he gave back by supporting our Boy Scout troop and volunteering with the high school speech and debate team. I watched his family face his mother Terry’s multiple sclerosis diagnosis with love and resilience. He is a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and founded Scouts for Equity to promote fair treatment for all Scouts and scouting leaders. Those experiences showed me that Zach is compassionate and deeply committed to serving others.

He is fighting for the ordinary person in his public service even when it is against the Democratic leaders in his party. In the Iowa Senate, Zach has shown that he can listen carefully, build common ground, and lead with principle. He has championed cleaner Iowa waterways, reproductive freedom, workers’ rights, homeowner rights and paid family and medical leave — issues that matter deeply to Iowa families. Zach Wahls is the thoughtful and effective leader Iowa needs in Washington.

Joe Reilly does his homework, would be a fine county supervisor

I am proud to endorse Joe Reilly for Johnson County Supervisor, District 5. In his years as Iowa City Downtown Night Mayor he has shown imagination, and both organizational and management skills and has done great work in revitalizing the downtown area. These skills were also evident in his period of management at the Eastern Iowa Airport. Joe does his homework thoroughly and is a good listener to other opinions.

Mandi Remington learns quickly, keeps the focus where it belongs

Mandi Remington is a Johnson County leader for our time. During her first term as county supervisor, she has consistently reached into the community to bring more voices into critical decisions.

Mandi uses her background in community organizing to take a holistic approach to governing. Mandi understands that we must work to break down silos. She knows that isolation makes us weaker. She is willing to question the status quo and consider new ideas.

Mandi also stays above the fray. She’s been able to keep working diligently for her constituents, despite the frequent drama on the dais.

Mandi is a quick learner, and she’s constantly connecting with others around the country who face challenges similar to ours.

In our decades as public servants, we know that leaders who set their egos aside to work for the greater good are the most effective. Mandi leads from her values, not for clout.

District 5 residents should vote for Mandi Remington on or before June 2 for Johnson County supervisor.
