Investigators later identified the victim as 36‑year‑old Ashley Marie Hall, a Des Moines resident. Police said Hall died at the scene from a gunshot wound.

According to police, 46‑year‑old Sharneeka Evans of Des Moines was charged with one count of first‑degree murder in connection with Hall’s death. Evidence gathered by investigators indicates Evans used a pistol during the shooting, police said.

At the time of the incident, both women were guests at the apartment where the shooting occurred, according to the Des Moines Police Department.

As the investigation progressed, detectives developed enough evidence to file charges against Evans, officials said. She has since been taken into custody.

The Des Moines Police Department said this marks the city’s 10th homicide of 2026.
