Following No. 8 seed Iowa baseball’s (33-21, 15-15 Big Ten) 10-6 win over Illinois on Tuesday afternoon, the Hawkeyes advance to the winner’s matchup of the double-elimination bracket quadrant with a clash against No. 12 seed Michigan State (24-31, 11-19 Big Ten) this evening from Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb.
The winner of this matchup will advance to the conference’s single-elimination bracket, where they will face No. 4 seed USC (42-14, 20-10 Big Ten) on Friday. Meanwhile, the loser will face the victor of the quadrant’s consolation matchup between No. 5 seed Purdue (35-19, 18-12 Big Ten) and No. 9 seed Illinois (28-26, 14-16 Big Ten) on Thursday evening.
Michigan State won the regular-season series against Iowa this year by taking two of three games during their March 20-21 trio of meetings from East Lansing. In that series, the Spartans outscored the Hawkeyes by a 20-13 margin.
