DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy’s Tacopalooza teams up with Courtyard Cafe’s Summer Concert Series for a sizzling summer kickoff on Thursday, May 8. Bring your friends, your family, and your appetite! Community members, students, staff, and all DMACC supporters are welcome to come out and enjoy delicious tacos from 4-7 p.m., free salsa lessons from 5-6 p.m. and free live music by Son Peruchos from 6-8 p.m. The event will also feature four food trucks, an ice cream truck and inflatables.
Annual Van Meter Parks & Rec Plant Sale
8 a.m. Saturday, May 10 at 600 Debra Dr, Van Meter.
The Van Meter Parks and Rec Department will host its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 10. The event will feature a variety of hanging baskets, individual flowers and pre-made potted arrangements. Cash or check preferred. Venmo will also be accepted. Proceeds from the plant sale will go back to the community to fund events like the annual Easter egg hunt, Art in the Park, Concerts on the Corner and Halloween festivities.
Mother’s Day Hike
9-10 a.m. Saturday, May 10 at Hanging Rock Park, 416 Redfield Street Redfield.
Come celebrate all moms with a guided walk at Hanging Rock. We’ll start at the top where the shelter is, then head down the path to the river. Come learn about what Nature’s moms are up to and see if you can find any spring colors popping. Register through DCCB’s Eventbrite page.
Safety Bike Rodeo
9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 10 at Adel City Hall Parking Lot, 301 S 10th Street.
Children ages 5-12 are invited to bring their bicycles and helmets, along with their parent(s), to participate in the 6th Annual Safety Bike Rodeo on Saturday, May 10. This come-and-go event is free and offers interactive activities for children, free giveaways and a drawing for prizes. Children completing the course will receive a certificate of completion, bike safety information, Rotary flyer, an icee, and DARE giveaways. Other activities include tours of a police car and a fire engine and visits with an Adel Police Officer and Adel Firefighters.

Fiber Festival of Perry

This year’s Fiber Festival of Perry will feature an amazing selection of fiber and textile vendors that will have yarns, spinning wheels, drop spindles, woven and knit goods, fiber arts supplies and so much more for sale along with demonstrations and a guest presentation. Atelier at 1109 Artists have created a yarn bomb display located at 1109 2nd Street and Soumas Court in downtown Perry – this display not only includes the annual lightposts decorated in new handknit wrappings, but an approximate 14 ft x 14 ft crocheted display and numerous themed fiber pieces throughout Soumas Court. This year’s Fiber Festival of Perry theme is “There’s No Place Like Fiber Festival of Perry!”
Model T Historic Hotels Tour
May 18-23 starting and ending at Hotel Pattee, Perry.
The Model T Club of Springfield MO is assembling at the Hotel Pattee in the afternoon on Sunday, May 18 for a Tour of Historic Hotels in Iowa. The tour will leave the Hotel Pattee in the morning on Monday, May 19 to head to Historic Park Inn in Mason City, followed by the Hotel Winneshiek in Decorah, Hotel Julien in Dubuque and Hotel Millwright in Amana Colonies before returning to the Hotel Pattee on Friday, May 23. The tour will have about 10 Model T’s. The T’s will be parked at the Hotel Pattee in the evenings on May 18 and 23. If you catch a driver, they would be happy to discuss their cars with you.
Heartland Youth Choir

The Perry Fine Arts Series will present the Heartland Youth Choir on Sunday, May 18. This will be an exciting music event with the blending of many youthful voices. Come and enjoy. The Perry Fine Arts concerts are free and open to all. Donations are accepted. The Perry Performing Arts Center is handicapped accessible.
Perry Lutheran Homes Summer Concert Series

Perry Lutheran Homes is bringing music, joy, and community connection to Perry this summer with its Live Music Concert Series. This four-concert lineup aims to bring community, family, and seniors together at free, family-friendly events open to the public and held on the Eden Acres Campus. The series will kick off with Jamie Aaron Kelley, a Boone artist performing rock ‘n’ roll, country, blues, and rockabilly on May 19. Upcoming concerts include Richie Lee & The Fabulous 50’s on June 9, Greater Des Moines Community Band on June 30 and Jim Quales Ministries on Aug. 18.
