Storm Lake High School basketball star Jaidyn Coon has decommitted from Creighton and is re-opening his recruitment.
Creighton coach Greg McDermott announced his retirement this week, leading to Coon’s decision.
“After recent changes at Creighton, I will be reopening my recruitment,” Coon wrote on social media. “I’m grateful for Coach McDermott and the entire Creighton staff. I’ll continue to evaluate my options moving forward, with Creighton still very much in consideration.”
Prior to his commitment to Creighton, Coon reported offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois, TCU, Nebraska and Drake, per 247 Sports. Three of those teams (Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska) are playing in this week’s Sweet 16.
Coon averaged 22.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for the Tornadoes during his senior season. Storm Lake (24-3) lost to ADM in the Class 3A state semifinals in overtime.
Coon, a 6-foot-6 forward, signed with Creighton in November 2025. He is a 4-star prospect in the 247 Composite, and ranked 116th nationally in the Class of 2026.
Iowa coach Ben McCollum is from Storm Lake and and played at St. Mary’s High School.
