While details are still limited, the company says construction is underway at the southeast corner of the Lincoln Way and Beedle Drive intersection, west of Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh.

“We are currently scheduled to open a new location in west Ames later this year,” Mohit Patel, analyst of communications for Chipotle, told the Ames Tribune in an email.

Chipotle Mexican Grill’s expansion reflects statewide growth

The new restaurant will join Ames’ first Chipotle, which opened in February 2013 at 435 S. Duff Ave. The expansion reflects the brand’s continued growth in Iowa, where Chipotle currently operates 16 locations, including restaurants in Ankeny, Coralville, Iowa City, Dubuque, Grimes, Sioux City, Waukee and West Des Moines, according to the restaurant chain’s website.

Chipotle has been steadily increasing its footprint across the Midwest, though Iowa still has fewer locations than neighboring states. Minnesota has 93 Chipotles, Illinois has 188, Missouri has 55 and Nebraska has 22.

Chipotle continues national momentum

The company, which operates more than 4,100 restaurants worldwide, emphasizes responsibly sourced ingredients and a digital-forward approach to ordering and service. With more than 135,000 employees, Chipotle describes itself as “cultivating a better world” through sustainable business practices and real-food preparation.

More details about the west Ames location, including its exact address and opening date, are expected to be released as construction progresses.
