Police identify body found in the Des Moines River as missing man

Police identified the body found in the Des Moines River last week as a man reported missing since February.

Abraham Aguilar, 20, of Des Moines, was found in the river near Principal Park, police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek said in an update on Tuesday, March 31.

Aguilar had been reported missing since Feb. 17, Parizek said. There is no evidence that physical trauma or criminal activity contributed to his death, he said.

Des Moines police and fire crews were notified on the body just after 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, according to the initial news release from Parizek.

Aguilar was the third body found in the Des Moines River in less than a month. The first was identified as Luis Cruz Baltazar, a 44-year-old Des Moines resident. The second was Dut Makuet, 29, of Des Moines, who had been missing since December. Police have not reported foul play in any of the deaths.
