Iowa City West track athlete Mason Woods and Iowa City Liberty track athlete Alexi Thigpen were voted by readers as the Press-Citizen’s Athletes of the Week for May 19-25.
Woods earned boys Athlete of the Week with 57% of the vote.
The senior Trojan clinched the Class 4A long jump state title at the Iowa high school state track and field meet on May 23. The Iowa football commit nabbed a school record of 23 feet, 4 ½ inches. He also ran the first leg of the 1600 sprint medley relay team that clinched fourth place.
Thigpen was voted girls Athlete of the Week with 59% of the vote.
The Liberty junior placed fourth in the Class 4A long jump at the state track meet. Thigpen posted a jump of 17 feet, 3 1/4 inches.
